Terms of Use
This is the agreement between you and us covering the Traceptor app and this website. It is written to be read — plain sentences, no walls of capital letters except where the law effectively demands them.
Last updated July 20, 2026
01Agreement
These terms form a binding agreement between you and Traceptor (“we”, “us”), covering the Traceptor application, its companion iOS app, and traceptor.com (together, the “Software”).
By downloading, installing, or using the Software you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the Software. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.
02Your license
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software for its intended purpose, subject to the plan you hold:
Your license key is personal to you or your team. You are responsible for keeping it private — treat it like a password.
Both one-time and subscription plans are licenses to use the Software, not a sale of the Software itself. We retain all intellectual property rights in it.
03Acceptable use — intercepting traffic
You are solely responsible for having the authorisation you claim to have. Specifically, do not:
- Intercept traffic on a device or network you do not own or are not authorised to test — including an employer's, a client's, a school's, or a public network.
- Capture another person's credentials, session tokens, messages, or personal data without their informed consent.
- Use the Software to gain unauthorised access to a system, to defeat a security control, or in any way that breaches computer misuse, wiretapping, or data protection law in your jurisdiction.
- Install the Traceptor root certificate on a device belonging to someone else without telling them what it does.
Penetration testing, red-teaming, and security research are legitimate uses of this Software — with a scope agreement or written authorisation from the system owner. The authorisation is your responsibility to obtain and to be able to evidence, not ours to verify.
04The root certificate
To inspect HTTPS, Traceptor generates a root certificate on your Mac and asks you to trust it. While it is trusted, software on that device will accept certificates Traceptor signs. This is how the tool works, and it is a meaningful change to that device’s security posture.
You are responsible for the devices you install it on and for removing it when you are done. The private key is generated and stored locally and never sent to us; equally, we cannot recover or revoke it for you.
05What you may not do with the Software
- Resell, sublicense, rent, or redistribute the Software or your license key.
- Share a key beyond the device or seat count of your plan, or circumvent licensing, activation, or the free/premium boundary.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it despite this restriction.
- Remove or obscure any proprietary notice.
- Use the Software to build a directly competing product.
06Purchases, billing, and taxes
Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. Your purchase is therefore also subject to their terms, and your payment details are handled by them — we never see your card number. Displayed prices include applicable tax where indicated.
Team subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current rate until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your Lemon Squeezy customer portal or by emailing us; access continues to the end of the period you have already paid for. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable notice before your next renewal.
07Refunds
The free tier exists so you can evaluate the app before paying. Beyond 14 days refunds are at our discretion, though we would rather fix your problem than keep money from someone who is unhappy — tell us what went wrong. Where consumer law in your country grants you stronger rights than this section, those rights apply and nothing here limits them.
08Updates and changes to the Software
We ship updates regularly and the app can check for them automatically. One-time Solo and Duo licenses include the version you bought and its ongoing updates within the terms shown at purchase.
We may add, change, or remove features over time. We will not deliberately remove a headline feature that a one-time license was sold on without offering a fair remedy. Some capabilities depend on services we do not control — Apple’s frameworks and iCloud, third-party status feeds — and may change or stop working if those change.
09Beta and experimental features
Some features ship marked as beta, experimental, or prototype. They are provided as-is, may be incomplete or unstable, may change or be withdrawn, and should not be relied on for critical work. Feature availability also varies between the macOS and iOS apps.
10Your data and your responsibility for it
Captured traffic, sessions, and rules live on your device, not on our servers — see the Privacy Policy. That means backups are your responsibility. We cannot recover data you lose, and because we never hold it we cannot restore it for you.
Captured traffic routinely contains passwords, tokens, and personal data. If you export or share a session, you are responsible for what is inside it — including any obligation you have to the people whose data it contains.
11Third-party services
The Software can connect to services we do not operate — Apple iCloud, Lemon Squeezy, and public status feeds among them. Your use of those is governed by their terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
12Disclaimer of warranties
The Software is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will correctly capture, decode, or reproduce every request.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising out of your use of the Software — even if we have been advised such damages were possible.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Software is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
14Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the Software in breach of these terms — in particular, from intercepting traffic you were not authorised to intercept.
15Termination
You may stop using the Software at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these terms — most importantly section 3 — or if you attempt to circumvent licensing. On termination your right to use the Software ends and you must uninstall it; the sections on liability, indemnity, and general terms survive.
16Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be announced in the app’s release notes. Continuing to use the Software after a change means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Software — and if a change materially disadvantages you shortly after a purchase, contact us about a refund.
17Disputes and general terms
Traceptor is sold online to customers around the world, and we would much rather solve a problem than argue about one. If something goes wrong, email support@traceptor.com first and give us a fair chance to put it right — most issues are a refund or a bug fix away.
If you are a consumer, you keep the benefit of any mandatory legal protections that apply where you live, and nothing in these terms takes those away. Note that purchases are made through Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record, so your rights in the transaction itself also run against them under their terms.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, it is limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in force. Our not enforcing a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us regarding the Software.
